Hi, my name is Gavin Carter. I am a senior at Keys High School. I am a three-year member of Youth Action for Health Leadership (YAHL) and have been blessed to be a Leadership Team member for one of those years. I am very passionate about the Elevate Student Health campaign and have even worked with a past member, Lacey Laymon, to give a presentation at Keys Elementary School.
My passion for Elevate Student Health comes from my personal experiences. During my elementary years, I was making unhealthy choices in my diet, activity and how I took care of myself overall. Through that, I developed insecurities about myself and, not realizing it, low mental performance during school. Coming into high school, I finally started making the changes in my diet, physical activity and how I took care of myself. I can confidently say my whole life changed for the better. Through that time, I discovered Elevate Student Health and how I can take what I have experienced to help change school policies and educate the youth to make changes for the better sooner, rather than later, like myself.
I strongly believe people should support Elevate Student Health because through survey collection, council meetings and community events to spread awareness, we can change the health of students, as well as the community. We can advocate for clean drinking water, healthier food options and even better policies for student physical activity. Thank you for your support in the Elevate Student Health campaign.
