Raising Health Awareness in Our Schools

My name is Laniya Zeigler. I’m 17 years old and a student at Classen SAS High School. I’m also a part of the YAHL (Youth Action for Health Leadership) program, and I’m passionate about making real changes in our schools and communities.

One of the biggest issues I care about is student health. I believe every student deserves to live a healthy, active life, and that starts with our schools. Through the YAHL program, I’m working to Elevate Student Health by focusing on three key areas: daily physical activity, access to clean water, and healthy eating habits.

Why does this matter to me? Because physical health affects everything, how we learn, how we feel, and how we grow. I’ve seen how difficult it can be for students to focus in class when they don’t have access to clean drinking water or when they’ve been sitting for hours without movement. I’ve seen how unhealthy food options can make students feel sluggish and unmotivated. I believe we can do better, and I want to be a part of that change.

One of my goals is to visit nearby elementary and middle schools to talk to younger students about these issues. I want to inspire them to make healthy choices early on and to let them know that their voices matter when it comes to shaping school policies. If we start promoting wellness at a young age, we can build healthier habits for life.

I’m excited to keep pushing for stronger school policies that support our health, like making sure students have time for physical activity every day, access to clean water throughout the school, and healthy meals in the cafeteria. With support from YAHL and my community, I know we can make these goals a reality.

Thank you for following my blog.
