Hello, my name is Chelsea Cowan, and I’m a junior at Pryor High School. I am on the leadership team for an organization called Youth Action for Health Leadership (YAHL), which advocates for two campaigns: Counteract Tobacco and Elevate Student Health. This is my first year being a part of this initiative, and I have come to be very passionate about our mission. Specifically, about Elevate. Elevate is a campaign in this organization that works to build a healthier Oklahoma. We do this by meeting with middle and high school principals to talk about providing healthy food options, as well as clean drinking water, and physical activity.
This year, I’ve had the opportunity to meet with the Pryor Middle School Principal, to bring to his attention the need our schools must regularly change our water filters. In this meeting, we were also able to talk about some healthy snack options we could put into the vending machines located around the campus. Elevate is important to me because it encourages students to build healthy habits at a young age. Healthy habits such as these have a positive effect on our physical and cognitive health! Thank you for taking the time to read over this and showing your support for the Elevate Student Health Campaign.
