Moving Your Body to Move Your Mind

My name is Khloe Tungate, and this is my first year on the YAHL Leadership Team. I am a sophomore at Shawnee High School. I enjoy participating in sports and learning about health and wellness, but I understand that not every student in my community has that same access or opportunity. I am passionate about the Elevate Student Health Campaign because of its message. Through this campaign, we are trying to change policies, such as improving schools’ access to clean water and increasing the amount of time students get outside to exercise and have recreational experiences.

This program is important to me because I truly believe that when you allow your body to move and exercise, you are also allowing your brain and mind to move. I think that is very important for today’s youth, and I am passionate about the possibility that students with health problems or depression can benefit simply by hearing about this campaign and participating in it.

I primarily speak to people about the Elevate Student Health Campaign at school and during sports games. This year, I hope to participate in a school board meeting to speak about this campaign and successfully spread awareness about all the positive changes it can bring to my community and schools around Oklahoma.

People should care about this campaign because it helps reduce obesity and depression in teens, especially in Oklahoma. By giving students the opportunity to learn about their bodies and their health, we are increasing the chances of building a healthier Oklahoma.
