Hi, I’m Kahrysa, and I am a junior at Ada High School. I am a part of the Youth Action for Health Leadership (YAHL) program. We have two campaigns. One in particular is called Elevate Student Health and focuses on improving student health. The Elevate Student Health campaign is all about improving our school wellness policies to ensure they are comprehensive and support overall student health. I have participated in Swap Up Day at my school with my friend Nevaeh! While doing Swap Up Day, I realized that our school needs better options for healthier foods. In today’s generation, junk food is way more common than healthy food.
The school wellness policy that we strive for is having access to better water and healthier food options on school campus! By having healthier food options, we could make our school environment a better place by not having as much junk food. We could also get better water filters for our water fountains around the school to ensure everyone has clean water.
Where I would like to make a difference for the Elevate Student Health campaign is within my school and town. We could get together and see what the town can do to provide better water/water filters and improve our district's wellness policy for healthier food options.
I am passionate about this campaign because we have had a lot of people sick due to the water filters not getting changed at school, as well as not having a good variety of healthy food options.
