Elevate Nutrition

Hello, my name is Dillon Tapp.

As a representative of the Elevate Student Health campaign—a core initiative of Youth Action for Health Leadership (YAHL) funded by the Tobacco Settlement Endowment Trust (TSET)—I have had the privilege of advocating for a healthier future for all Oklahoma students. Through my work, I have presented to a wide variety of students across different age groups, and these interactions have highlighted a critical need for change within our educational environment.

One of the most pressing issues we face is that many students receive little to no nutritional value in their daily diets. Nutrition is not a concern reserved for older students; it is a fundamental factor that affects students of all ages. While some students have a better understanding of their nutritional needs than others, every student deserves an environment that supports their well-being.

To address these gaps, the Elevate Student Health campaign is focused on improving wellness policies throughout our school systems. Our goal is to move beyond basic guidelines and implement comprehensive policies that prioritize health as a pillar of academic success. By strengthening these standards, we can help ensure that every student, regardless of age or background, has access to the nutrition and wellness resources they need to thrive.

Together, we can elevate the standard of health in our schools and create a lasting impact on the lives of Oklahoma's youth.
